BIOGRAPHY

Sid Smith is a founding partner of non sibi ventures, a newly launched black and women led early stage venture fund investing primarily in startups led by underrepresented founders offering technologies that have a positive impact on citizens, communities, culture or the environment. He is also the founder and President of SRS Counsel PLLC, a solo law practice that provides virtual general counsel services on a range of corporate and transactional matters. His legal career spans more than 25 years and includes Am Law 100 law firm and in-house experience. Currently, he serves as counsel to Auldbrass Partners, L.P., and he has served as general counsel to Syncom Venture Partners, a leading media and communications venture firm, as well as the National Association of Investment Companies, the leading trade association for investors in ethnically diverse companies. Prior to founding SRS Counsel, Sid practiced for nearly 14 years at the law firms of K&L Gates LLP, where he was a partner in the corporate and securities group, and Cooley LLP, where he was a senior associate. Before becoming an attorney, Sid was Assistant for External Affairs for New Jersey Governor James J. Florio where his duties included serving as a liaison to New Jersey’s African American community and prior to that he was Special Assistant for Intergovernmental Affairs for New Jersey Congressman Robert G. Torricelli where his duties included serving as liaison to the mayors in the congressional district. Sid is also active in many organizations dedicated to service in the areas of education and economic development. He is a Pahara Institute fellow and founding board member. Sid also serves as board chair of Global Nomads Group and vice board chair of Alder Graduate School of Education. His past education focused activities include serving on the board of the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law Foundation, serving as the inaugural board chair and a senior advisor to Bellwether Education Partners, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the achievement of high needs students, working as a senior consultant to Charter Board Partners, and serving as chair of the Multicultural Affairs Committee on the Phillips Academy, Andover Alumni Council. Sid’s economic focused activities include being a charter member of The Marathon Foundation, an organization focused on increasing investment of capital into businesses with significant ownership or management by people of color; serving as past chair of the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce Incubator Advisory Board; and serving as a former commissioner on the Virginia Governor’s Commission on Minority Business Enterprise. Sid graduated from Yale with a B.A. in English, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team, and he received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is also a graduate of Phillips Academy, Andover.
