Stefanie Sanford is Chair-elect of the Institute for Citizens & Scholars, whose mission is to cultivate young people as informed, engaged and hopeful citizens. For the last decade, she served as Chief of Global Policy & External Relations for the College Board. She oversaw the organization’s Policy, Government Relations, Advocacy and strategic relationships with foundation and corporate partners, building coalitions to measurably improve student access, agency and outcomes. Prior to joining the College Board, Dr. Sanford spent over 10 years at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, most recently as Director of Policy and Advocacy for the United States Program. Before joining the Foundation, she served in a number of policy leadership positions at the federal and state level including as a White House Fellow in the Office of Cabinet Affairs. She is author of Civic Life in the Information Age: Politics, Technology and Generation X, based on her dissertation research. Dr. Sanford is a native Texan and holds a BS from Texas Christian University, MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Ph.D from the University of Texas.
