REST
WORKSHOP

For this three-part convening, we are thrilled to be joined by author and yoga practitioner Octavia Raheem. Octavia will guide our group in two virtual sessions that will bookend the in-person retreat. These teachings on rest and wellness will anchor some of our content during our time together in February. Attendance at these virtual sessions is strongly encouraged to offer you a holistic experience and to get the full benefits of the retreat, though not mandatory:

  • Session #1: Saturday, January 7,  8:00 - 11:00 am (PT) / 11:00 am - 2:00 pm (ET)

  • Session #2: Saturday, March 25, 8:00 - 9:30 am (PT) / 11:00 am - 12:30 pm (ET)

Calendar invites for our rest workshop sessions were previously sent to you from network@pahara.org. Please let us know if you need these calendar holds sent again, or sent to a different email address.

OUR GUIDE
IN REST

My name is Octavia Raheem and I am delighted to meet you and be your retreat guide. My biography tells you about what I have done and my approach to rest /work. This video captures more of the essence of who I am.

In advance of our time together, I would like to share a little bit about the history or etymology of the word retreat as we consider the power and possibility within the choice you’ve made to begin your year in such an intentional way:

retreat: late 14c.,"act of retiring or withdrawing; military signal for retiring from action or exercise" early 15c., retreten, "to draw in, draw back, also "to fall back from battle." To step away from the battle. To withdraw or pull back.

Our retreat is a place to pull back, recover, reflect, and consider how you want to lead the way when you step back onto/ into the field in 2023.

Our retreat time together on Saturday, January 7 will be restful, generative, and one focused on your current + future direction.  Over the course of three hours we will:

  • Restore and regenerate via accessible practices like mindfulness, deep relaxation, good ‘ole’ fashioned rest;

  • Access imagination and creativity as essential and dynamic resources to support your visionary leadership;

  • Acknowledge where you are and consider where you are headed in the new year

Finally, here are some songs that have inspired and informed the planning process.

Looking forward,

Octavia Raheem
