DIRECTOR OF SELECTION

OVERVIEW

The Pahara Institute’s mission is to provide transformative development opportunities for American education leaders. We select innovative leaders within the non-profit schools sector who are committed to equity and opportunity for all children. We focus on a diverse set of leaders with a specific priority on representation and inclusion of leaders who share life experiences with our most marginalized and underserved student populations. 

POSITION

The Pahara Institute is looking for a values-driven leader in our new Director of Selection. This role as structured reflects both the projected growth of Pahara’s emerging portfolio and the need to add capacity and depth to our Selection team. The Director of Selection will lead the design, planning, and monitoring of our selection processes, ensuring that racial equity is centered and that the candidate experience is meaningful and intentional. 

 

The Director of Selection is expected to achieve the following goals:
 

Candidate Stewardship and Selection

  • Lead the design, workflow planning, and execution of inclusive, racial-equity centered selection processes for Pahara’s programs, from nomination/application to induction of new Fellows;

  • Support the Vice President, Selection in the identification, sourcing and recruitment of outstanding candidates in the non-profit schools sector;

  • Serve as a lead interviewer and core member of the cohort development team; participate in candidate screening, evaluation, and decision-making;

  • Steward relationships with candidates through the life-cycle of their candidacy, ensuring outstanding candidate experience and communications at appropriate points during the selection process.

 

Selection Operations and Collaboration

  • Coordinate cross-team collaboration and orientation to ensure effective and sustainable selection process workflow;

  • Provide direction to Selection managers and coordinators on selection process management and support; 

  • Maintain knowledge of Selection best practices of other leadership development programs around the country, especially those serving leaders with under-represented voices; 

  • Contribute to continuous process innovation, improvement, and Team learning;

  • Partner with the Vice President, Selection on new and emerging projects as the organization continues to grow and change.

 

Data Systems and Workflow

  • Support the Manager of Selection to develop evaluation systems and protocols for tracking candidate targets and progression;

  • Serve as the primary Salesforce point of contact for Selection on database workflow, informative and visually appealing dashboard creation, custom fields, and Salesforce assistance as needed;

  • Lead the selection, development, usage, and troubleshooting of web-based forms supporting selection processes

Compelling candidates will have:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of professional work experience;

  • A minimum of 5 years experience managing the workflow and tasks of other team members;

  • Experience in managing complex strategic planning processes with interdependent teams;

  • Commitment to diversity, a high level of cultural competence, and the ability to work across multiple lines of cultural difference;

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; 

  • Proven ability to work independently and virtually in a fast-paced environment;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; 

  • Strong research skills;

  • Proficiency with Salesforce or other CRM platform; ability to leverage data for forecasting  

  • Ability to handle confidential information, and an understanding of the issues around employee confidentiality; 

  • A proven track record of interacting at multiple levels within an organization, both internally and externally, on projects with multiple participants; 

  • Commitment to solving inequity in American education, including understanding issues of systemic and institutionalized racism; and

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications, with ability to type at least 60 WPM.

LOGISTICS

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Director of Selection will report to the Vice President of Selection and will manage one Selection Coordinator. The Director of Selection will also partner closely with the entire Selection Team.

COMPENSATION

Pahara provides competitive compensation and an attractive benefits package, including full health care coverage, and access to 401(k) account with matching contribution policy. Expected salary range for this position is $91,000 - $130,000. 

​

LOCATION

We are a virtual organization by design so that our professionals can work where they have built their lives. Our campus in the Denver area will serve as a hub for our work and as the main location for all in-person events. Candidates who live outside the Denver area will have an increase in required overnight travel to the campus.
