BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Gray is the Deputy Chief for College, Career, and Military Readiness at Houston Independent School District, the largest school district in the state of Texas.
In Daniel’s role, he oversees the overall CCMR strategy for Houston ISD. In this role, he helps to drive outcomes for students in Houston to ensure that all students who attend HISD schools, have the opportunity to leave their schools with true choice based options for what they will do in their careers.
Originally from Long Beach, California, Daniel has grown up understanding the value of a college degree and has dedicated his life to ensuring that more students understand the positive impact that a college degree can have on their lives. Daniel is a believer in the value of opportunity and sees his role as a pathway to ensure that all students have access to increased options no matter their path in life.
Prior to HISD, Daniel was the Deputy Chief for College and Career where he oversaw the overall College and Career strategy for Uplift. In that role, he drove Uplift to a 100% college acceptance, a 6-year college graduation rate of more than 50%, and one of the highest median incomes for alumni in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Daniel joined Uplift in 2017 as a member of the Broad Residency.
Daniel received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine, and holds master’s in education from both the University of Houston and the Broad Center for the Management of School Systems (now based at Yale University). Daniel lives in Houston, Texas, with his wife, Laura, and two children, Sofia and Jackson.
