BIOGRAPHY
Monica Green is the Executive Director of Capital Village PCS, a learner-driven middle school in Washington, DC, that she founded in 2020 to create a more equitable and student-centered approach to education. Under her leadership, Capital Village challenges traditional school models by offering a flexible and personalized learning environment where all students—especially those often overlooked—can thrive.
A lifelong educator, Monica grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and discovered her passion for working with young people early on. After graduating from Towson University, she began her career teaching middle school English in Suitland, Maryland, and spent 16 years teaching English and theater across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. In the classroom, she was deeply committed to experiential learning, integrating field experiences, community experts, and teaching artists to make learning more relevant and engaging.
Beyond the classroom, Monica emerged as a teacher leader, driving instructional improvement and fostering a culture of high expectations and student support. She played a key role in strengthening academic programs, guiding colleagues in adopting best practices, and implementing initiatives designed to expand opportunities for students who were not reaching their full potential.
Now, as the leader of Capital Village PCS, Monica continues to champion innovative, equity-driven education that meets students where they are and pushes them to excel.
