Nella García Urban is a wife, bilingual mother of two and proud daughter of the Rio Grande Valley on the US/Mexico border. Her day job is serving as the Chief Program Officer at YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, Texas where she is responsible for leading college ready programming for all students. She is also the founder of Latina Leading, where she works as a strategist for leaders of color. Nella became a teacher in 2003, and founded the nationally ranked, first ever charter school alternative certification program, Teaching Excellence, that has produced hundreds of qualified teachers of color. As a former Chief Talent Officer, she led progressive equity driven talent initiatives. Most recently, she graduated from The Broad Academy for Superintendents, a highly selective program for executive leaders and was in the first Pahara NextGen Cohort, First Family. Her mission to drive visionary change through education for communities of color to lead within their own power and promise.
