BIOGRAPHY

Alexis Johnson is chief schools officer at Match Charter Public School in Boston, Massachusetts. She lives in the neighboring city of Quincy with her husband, her mother, and her two children. Prior to taking on her current role, Alexis served in two other network-level positions at Match: managing director of secondary programming and principal coach. Her campus-based roles at Match included interim Match High School principal and Match Corps tutoring director.

From 2009 to 2016, Alexis was on the founding team at Coney Island Prep Public Charter School in Brooklyn, New York. She joined that team as a fifth-grade language arts teacher when they opened their flagship middle school campus. She continued on as middle school dean of students and then as Coney Island Prep's founding high school principal. Before moving to New York in 2009, Alexis earned her graduate degree from Boston's Simmons University. She completed her coursework there through a fellowship at City on a Hill Charter Public School that kickstarted her love of teaching English literature.

Alexis's full-circle journey in K-12 education began in 2006 during her Americorps service year as a tutor at Match High School. She graduated with honors in 2005 from The George Washington University.
