BIOGRAPHY
Antoinette Banks is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Expert IEP, an educational technology platform transforming the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities. Leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning, Expert IEP equips families and schools with tools to create data-driven, culturally sensitive IEPs, fostering equitable educational outcomes.
Antoinette’s journey began as a single mother to a neurodivergent child. Her daughter’s transformation from nonverbal to a college-bound advocate inspired her to develop solutions for families navigating special education. Antoinette is also the author of Better Than a Diagnosis: A Single Parent's Guide to Autism, sharing strategies for advocacy and empowerment.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Learning and Mind Sciences at the University of California, Davis, Antoinette’s research focuses on computational approaches to learner variability, equitable AI in education, and family engagement. She is a Ford Fellow, recipient of the Robert J. Glushko Award for advancements in cognitive science, and has been featured in Forbes.
Antoinette has collaborated with Dr. Jill Biden's office and the National Parents Union, and her work is supported by NewSchools Venture Fund, the Yass Prize, and Pharrell Williams' $1 million Black Ambition Prize to scale Expert IEP.
Through partnerships with advocacy groups, schools, and regional centers, Antoinette is redefining the special education experience by addressing inequities and empowering families to play a central role in their children’s education.
