BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Donnell Butler is the Founder and President of Opportunity Collegeā€”a nonprofit organization that empowers economic mobility through career-connected education and work-based learning opportunities for youth from under-resourced communities. With over 20 years of research and practice experience, Dr. Butler has worked to understand, implement, adapt, and promote evidence-based practices that improve college and career outcomes for students from under-resourced and marginalized communities. From 2012-2019, Donnell served as a dean at Franklin and Marshall College, where he co-led the Next Generation Initiative, which resulted in 3-4x increases in the number of students of color and Pell grant recipients enrolled and graduated. His past professional experiences include leading research and development of background survey questionnaires for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) at Educational Testing Services (ETS), American Education Research Association (AERA) post-doctoral fellow for the College Ambition Program at Michigan State University; project director for the Campus Life in America Student Survey, and evaluation specialist for the Princeton University Preparatory Program. He earned his BA in business administration and sociology from F&M and his Ph.D. in sociology from Princeton University.
