BIOGRAPHY
Edward Rangel is co-founder and chief executive officer of Adelante Schools in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he has led a comprehensive school turnaround since July 2020. Under Edward’s leadership, Adelante achieved double-digit gains in mathematics and English Language Arts proficiency within two years, secured more than $20 million in federal, state, and private grant funding, and maintained an 85 percent staff retention rate. Edward also led the organization to rank in the 100th percentile on the TNTP Insight Instructional Culture Survey among Indianapolis charter schools by 2023.
Prior to founding Adelante Schools, Edward was an innovation school fellow with The Mind Trust, where he co-authored the school’s original charter and facilitated community engagement with more than 100 stakeholders. He previously served as principal and assistant principal at Tindley Accelerated Schools, leading school teams and achieving two consecutive years of 100 percent third-grade reading proficiency on the IREAD-3 assessment. Edward began his career as an elementary teacher with Indianapolis Public Schools.
Edward currently serves as executive committee chair of the Indiana Charter Innovation Center, and has served as vice president of The Reading League of Indiana, and a board member of Playworks Indiana. He has also served on the Indianapolis mayoral education transition team and a state panel to study alternatives to Indiana’s state assessment.
Edward earned a Master of Education in Public School Building Leadership from Columbia University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marian University, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Redlands.
