JM Garrett Learning Group

BIOGRAPHY

Through his consulting practice, JM Garrett Learning Group, Jeffrey supports efforts to transform leadership and the learning experience with many of the largest school systems across America (NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, and more), as well as small and mid-sized districts, CMOs, and non profits. He has supported school leaders, system leaders, and teacher leaders in their efforts to build and sustain effective organizations that work to intentionally close equity gaps and address our nation’s history of denying opportunity to low income, Black, brown, and immigrant communities.

Jeffrey has over 20 years of experience in education. For 11 years he oversaw leadership development for principals, APs, and teacher leaders for a network of district schools in Los Angeles, supporting school transformation in the city’s longest underserved communities. For a decade Jeffrey worked in New York City as a middle and high school principal, assistant principal, instructional leadership coach, and high school social studies teacher.

Jeffrey’s work is grounded in the idea that “if there were a silver bullet in education, we’d have found it already.” Each school, team, and organization is unique, and needs support tailored to meet their particular needs. Jeffrey holds an unshakeable belief in what is possible for students when the educators around them have the tools, resources, training, and conditions for success. Jeffrey is also the co-host of the long-running, justice-centered podcast All of the Above: An Unstandardized Take on Education.

Jeffrey began his career working in college admissions at his alma mater Dartmouth College, and earned his Master’s degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. A proud native of Saint Paul, Minnesota and having attended public schools from K-12 himself, Jeffrey firmly believes in the importance of a high quality, public education in a democratic society.
