BIOGRAPHY
Jemina is a graduate of Yale and Columbia Business School, with experience in global business consulting and community development, and is currently the President & COO at Teach For America. She originally joined Teach For America after working with Deloitte, Price Waterhouse Coopers, and the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone. Previously, as the CEO of ROADS Charter High Schools, she successfully launched two NYC charter high schools, serving over 400 students facing unique challenges. Her leadership extended to overseeing a nationwide network of all-girls' public schools and a college access program in NYC as the Executive Director at Student Leadership Network.
Throughout her career, she held progressive leadership roles at the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE), ultimately serving as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the Office of New Schools. At Teach For America, she served as the New York Executive Director, Senior Vice President of Regional Operations, and Chief of National Community Impact, consistently advocating for equity and justice.
Jemina's personal journey as an African-American and Puerto Rican woman raised in the South Bronx, overcoming obstacles to graduate from Ivy League schools, profoundly shapes her belief that an excellent education is the greatest lever for success and economic mobility. With a commitment to using her time, talent, and voice to fight for equity and access, she serves as a role model and mentor, especially for young women leaders of color.
