Mala Batra is the chief executive officer at Aspire Public Schools, a charter management organization serving 15,500 TK-12 students across 36 schools in historically underserved communities throughout California. During her 13 years with Aspire, Mala has managed various functions including as strategy, growth, and operations and most recently served as chief of staff. She has overseen the launch of eight new schools, designed the organization's strategic planning process, and led Aspire's efforts to launch schools in Memphis, Tennessee, which now operate independently as Journey Community Schools. Prior to joining Aspire, Mala held project management roles at Levi Strauss & Co. and Gap Inc., and worked as a consultant for Deloitte, primarily focused on retail and product development strategy. Mala holds a BS from University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She is a proud Bay Area native and currently lives in San Francisco with her husband, Sumit, and children, Zaiya and Kash.
