Marina Cofield is the chief executive officer of East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP), a multifaceted education nonprofit that empowers East Harlem youth through a network of charter schools, afterschool and summer programs, post-secondary programs, and a teaching residency. Prior to joining EHTP, Marina served as chief operating officer at ExpandED Schools, which supports the afterschool sector in New York City through policy, advocacy, research, and professional development. She also spent eleven years in central leadership roles at the New York City Department of Education, including serving as senior executive director of the Office of Leadership, where she led the establishment of a strong, sustainable pipeline of school and system leaders citywide. In 2003, Marina founded KIPP South Fulton Academy, a college preparatory middle school in metro-Atlanta, where she served as principal for five years. She is also an alumna of the 1994 corps of Teach for America in the Mississippi Delta, where she taught middle school special education reading and language arts. Marina holds a bachelor’s degree in history and literature from Harvard College, a JD from Harvard Law School, and a certificate of advanced studies in education leadership from National-Louis University. She and her husband live in New Jersey, where they are proud parents to their two sons, Cassius and Langston.
