BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Nafeesha Mitchell is founder and principal of B², a leadership development practice, and program leader with the Groundwater Institute. Her work focuses on strengthening leadership capacity, aligning organizational systems, and supporting leaders navigating complex, equity-centered change across public education, charter schools, and education-adjacent organizations. Through her advisory, coaching, and systems work, Nafeesha has supported charter and public education leaders and organizations collectively serving more than 500,000 students across the country.

Prior to founding B², Nafeesha spent more than a decade in senior leadership roles at Teach For America. Most recently, she served as chief of staff to the chief executive officer and strategy lead, where she supported organizational vision and execution, stewarded executive decision making, and oversaw the operational effectiveness of the c-suite. Her leadership at Teach For America also included serving twice as a regional executive director in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Memphis, Tennessee. In these roles, she led multi-stakeholder strategies to advance educational equity, customized national programs to meet local community needs, and partnered closely with school systems, charter networks, boards, and community leaders. She successfully raised an average of six million dollars annually through public and private philanthropy.

In 2020, Nafeesha spearheaded Teach For America’s national partnership with the Racial Equity Institute to conduct an enterprise-wide racial equity assessment engaging nearly one thousand six hundred staff members, more than five hundred regional board members, and the national board of directors.

Nafeesha has been recognized as a Thirty Under Thirty honoree and a Top Women in Business award recipient. She holds a doctorate in education with a focus in organizational leadership and learning from Vanderbilt University, has more than fifteen years of experience as an educator and organizational leader, and lives in North Carolina with her two daughters.
