Executive Director, San Antonio & Interim Executive Director, Austin

Teach For America

BIOGRAPHY

Originally from McAllen, TX, Nick comes from a long line of farmworkers and day laborers from the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio. In 2005, he graduated from Austin College in North Texas as a Religion major en route to seminary before joining Teach For America (TFA) as a New York City corps member.

Nick taught upper elementary at PS156 in Brownsville, Brooklyn and had a life-changing experience as a classroom leader. He is especially proud of the work his students did as they tracked their reading growth via a ‘beta-fish-environment-fancification’ system. After his corps experience, Nick joined Teach For America RGV program staff in 2007 and spent the next six years shaping the strategy and supports for new educators before joining TFA-San Antonio in 2013. He was on the TFA-SA team for six years serving as head of program and eventually chief operating officer before stepping into the Executive Director role in January of 2019. In the 2022-2023 school year, he was asked to expand his leadership by supporting the Dallas – Fort Worth regional office alongside San Antonio. He is in his 18th year on Teach For America’s staff.

Nick and his partner, Dianne, are the parents of twin fifth graders in SAISD. And they are proud to have had both a TFA corps member and alum as their children’s teachers so far, as well as a TFA alum as their school’s principal.
