Peng Chao is currently the Acting Chief of Charter Schools at the School District of Philadelphia. In this role, he leads the team responsible for overseeing and supporting 83 charter schools that collectively serve 65,000 students across Philadelphia. This work involves the approval of new schools, ongoing monitoring, renewal/nonrenewal recommendations, and supporting students and families in navigating their options. Notably, since he joined the team in 2013, the Charter Schools Office has developed a best-in-class accountability framework to ensure that charter schools in Philadelphia are accessible, high quality options for students in every neighborhood. Prior to joining the CSO, Peng served as a teacher and leader in district and charter schools in Philadelphia. He earned a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in education policy from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education.
