BIOGRAPHY
Sarah Jane Forman is a lawyer, law professor, public servant, and committed good-troublemaker with a deep passion for justice and human rights. Originally from the Toledo District of Belize, she now lives in Washington, DC with her husband and two children.
She currently serves as General Counsel and Board Secretary for KIPP DC, the largest public charter school network in the nation’s capital. Previously, Sarah Jane was General Counsel for the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and began her DC government service as an appointee of Mayor Muriel Bowser in the Mayor’s Office of Legal Counsel.
An experienced litigator and constitutional law professor, Sarah Jane began her legal career in the juvenile unit of the Boston Public Defender’s Office before entering private criminal defense practice, representing individuals facing charges ranging from mail fraud to domestic terrorism. She has taught both clinical and doctrinal courses at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis and Detroit Mercy Law School, where she founded and directed a pro bono legal clinic serving children and families impacted by the school-to-prison pipeline.
Sarah Jane is a published scholar in criminal procedure, education policy, and trial advocacy and was selected as a fellow with the National Juvenile Justice Network’s Youth Justice Leadership Institute. She has served on nonprofit boards focused on arts and education, serves as a group leader with SGI-USA, and is a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
She holds degrees from the University of Michigan, Boston College Law School, and the Broad Center (now at Yale SOM) and is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, Missouri, Michigan, and DC. She loves yoga, visiting her beloved Belize, hosting wellbeing retreats, and cooking for family and friends.
